September 2018 - Amsterdam to Budapest

We have traveled in the past, via air, to Italy, Ireland, England, Scotland, Scandinavia, Australia, and New Zealand. Once we arrived in many of these beautiful, exotic places, we would generally rent a car, and travel around the country.  We would look up cousins that resided in Italy and Ireland.  We would travel to historic and scenic places.

However, we had never taken a river cruise, even though some of our friends had.  So, in September, 2018, we decided to take a river cruise.  We had waited this long, so we decided to go with Viking.  They were fantastic!  You have to get used to the fact that you are on a narrow river boat, not a cruise liner.  You quickly realize the difference as soon as you enter your state room.  While they are beautifully equipped (even with heated bathroom floors), they are relatively small in comparison.  However, you have a wall that opens up to full access to the countrysides that you are cruising through...and it's all yours in the most private way!

If you have the opportunity, you must not put it off.  You will be glad that you did.

We cruised down from Amsterdam, to Cologne, down the Rhein, to Braubach, Miltenberg Bavaria, Germany, Rothenburg ob Der Tauber, Bamberg, Nuremberg, Passau, Melk Austria, Vienna, Budapest, Hungary. We flew back home from Budapest.

What a really grand experience!
